Sun Life Foundation is Crowdsourcing Financial Literacy Initiatives through the Brighter World Builder Challenge

In the Philippines, we have seen how our economy is dominated by very few large and humongous enterprises and how the poverty has elevated from bad to worse in the last ten (10) years. One of the major concerns pointed out why we weren't able to cut poverty is due to lack of education on financial literacy and how the average poor can improve their lives either through unconventional means of earning or managing their finances properly through profits acquired via employment or traditional businesses. In line with these observations, Sun Life Foundation who is celebrating their 10th year of building a brighter world has partnered with The Spark Project - the leading crowdfunding platform and community in the country. This collaboration intends to crowdsource creative and innovative solutions from social innovators and change makers, helping them deepen their impact with the communities they serve.

As a means to pay it forward, Sun Life Foundation launched the #BWBChallenge a.k.a Brighter World Builde CHallenge last November 2017. This project shall accept applications which are open to all mission-driven groups, social enterprises and non-government organizations in order to be positive game changers in their communities. "We are very excited to work with Sun Life Foundation on this and we are looking forward to crowdsource new financial literacy projects for the Foundation." said Patch Dulay, Founder and CEO of The Spark Project.

Deadline for application are until January 31, 2018 (subject to change). For those shortlisted applicants, they will have an opportunity to:

• Participate in a "Social Impact Bootcamp" to further refine their initiatives.
• Get the opportunity to pitch their initiatives to the BWB Screening Committee.
• Have access to exclusive networking opportunities.

The finalists who can capture that AHA! moment have a chance of receiving a grant funding worth PHP 100,000.00 from Sun Life Foundation as well as crowdfunding support from The Spark Project.

The pride being celebrated through the recent Facebook profile pic display is in support to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community.

I am straight, no doubt but the liberty to express oneself does not belong to any gender. This is being legalized not to make things right because the distinction of what is right and wrong depends on the society's view. Everyone is given the freedom to express oneself. It should be limitless.

Everyone is fighting their own moral issues. Some because of their affairs, some because of their judgment. Let us be open minded and take one out of the equation. It is the 21st century anyway. Let us grow up and mature as we do with other things such as technology, innovation and culture.

Let us practice the separation of the Church and the State.

Senator Diane Sevino made a very valid point.

City Hall does not assess the quality of the relationships. The task of the government is to administer equality given to each individuals whether straight or part of the LGBT Community.

The Church however could still continue to filter those who would want to wed under their respective religious institutions after validating the quality of the relationship of the partners who wish to marry.

DIVORCE IN PH

I grew up in a very conservative environment. I am a product of a Christian school where Sunday studies are regular and went to a college who observes strict Catholicism which instill significant values.  

As a kid, I am just a regular girl who dreamt of walking down the aisle with the man that I love and adore while we have those sparks in our eyes. 

But as I grow older, I realized that love is no fairytale. There are a lot of hiccups and bumps in marriage, but these are amenable and can be tolerated as the couples work on their relationship. However, there are cases where it's not just bumps but rather a cliff that when you draw the line - you can fall in an ocean. Similar to marriage - these are the ones that cannot be tolerated, cannot be worked out and one has to simply save himself/herself by swimming away.

I was never Pro-Divorce until I realized that there are a lot of couples that need to be separated simply because things are not working out. Love has died or they've simply fallen apart. 

We cannot provide freedom to the selected few... Say hmmm... The rich who can afford the long and tedious process of annulment? Everyone should have an equal means to be freed from mistakes of the past so that the future can be faced with a new and better purpose. 

I also agree that the separation of the church and the state must be enforced as stated in the Constitution. We should not be limited by our values as imposed by the Church. No offense to religion or anyone. But let us be open-minded. Hey! It's the 21st century anyways!
